Description
Located within the modern urban development of Mandani Bay, a mixed-use project featuring residential, commercial, and recreational spaces along the Mactan Channel in Mandaue City, these parking spaces stand out for their lack of traditional pavement. Instead of concrete or asphalt, the spaces are covered with gravel and feature noticeable vegetation growing in and around them.
While the design appears to align with green parking concepts—where vegetation and permeable surfaces help reduce runoff and urban heat—it is unclear if this approach was intentional or the result of natural overgrowth due to neglect or changing maintenance practices.
These spaces may provide benefits such as improved stormwater infiltration, reduced heat island effects, and aesthetic integration with the surrounding urban greenery. However, their functionality and intent need to be assessed further to determine whether they were deliberately designed as green infrastructure or are simply overgrown due to lack of upkeep.
