Description
The photo shows a parking surface located in Dolne Migowo, Gdańsk, made with permeable pavement, which is a part of green infrastructure. This type of surface consists of openwork concrete slabs (or similar materials) that allow water to infiltrate into the ground. Thanks to its structure, this pavement allows rainwater to soak directly into the soil, reducing the load on the city’s stormwater drainage system. Additionally, the soil and gravel layers act as a natural filter, cleaning the water from pollutants such as dust and petroleum-based substances. The presence of vegetation and the natural permeability of the materials also help reduce surface heating, which is important in mitigating the urban heat island effect.
