Description
Świętokrzyska II Retention Basin is a key component of Gdańsk’s urban water management system, designed to reduce flood risk and support biodiversity.
Project Description:\
Located near the Pięciu Wzgórz (Five Hills) residential area, Świętokrzyska II is the largest retention basin in Gdańsk. It covers an area of 7.5 hectares, with a shoreline of approximately 1.3 kilometers. The basin includes two tree-covered islands that serve as nesting grounds for many bird species, such as mute swans, little grebes, great crested grebes, coots, mallards, and moorhens. Reed warblers also nest in the coastal reedbeds.
In addition to its ecological importance, the basin plays a vital role in stormwater retention, helping to manage urban rainfall and mitigate flood risks. It is part of Gdańsk’s broader strategy for climate change adaptation and sustainable development.
Key Features:
- Location: Gdańsk, Poland
