Description
Community-Based Waste Management and River Rehabilitation Program for Tingub River\
\
Project Overview: The Tingub River, once a vital part of the local ecosystem, has become increasingly polluted due to inadequate waste management practices. The growing waste problem is worsening by inconsistent waste collection and lack of awareness, leading to significant environmental and social issues for the surrounding community. To address this, we propose a comprehensive Community-Based Waste Management and River Rehabilitation Program designed to engage the local population, reduce pollution at the source, and restore the river's ecological balance through active clean-up efforts and ongoing community education.\
\
*Key Strategies: The proposed program centers around two primary strategies: *
- Source Reduction – Targeting the root causes of waste accumulation by improving waste management practices at the barangay level.
- Active Clean-Up and Monitoring Engaging – the community in regular, organized clean-up drives to remove waste from the river, while also monitoring and recording the progress of the rehabilitation efforts.
Goals and Outcomes: \
\
Reduction of River Pollution: A noticeable decrease in the visible waste in the river, contributing to the restoration of the ecosystem.
Improved Waste Management Practices: A sustainable waste segregation and collection system that ensures waste is managed at the source.
\
Community Engagement: Increased community involvement and awareness of environmental issues, with residents taking ownership of their local river’s health. \
\
Ecological Restoration: The gradual improvement of water quality and biodiversity in the Tingub River, fostering a healthier environment for both humans and wildlife.\
