Description
Climate Scan initiative in Barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City, forms part of an extensive initiative in terms of raising local awareness about river pollution and urban flooding through localized data collection and community involvement in translation. Our group, forming a collaborative effort, took survey from a part of the Butuanon River to assess its flood heights, sources of waste deposition, and environmental threats for surrounding household households.
Our study used all geospatial data collection tools such as Google Earth, QGIS, and community interviewing for assessing local waste management and living conditions within the household. It combines the two dimensions of technical assessment and social research to inform subsequent developments in environmental responsiveness and climate resilience.
This contributes to the ongoing River Scan Challenge that has been adopted and supported by local and international academic institutions, demonstrating how much student-led, community-based research may do in attending to sustainability issues within real-world contexts.
