Description
The location was previously used around 2020 as a pilot parklet with a flexible public seating concept, including portable seating boxes available through a lending system and a small base structure designed for temporary use and reallocation in the surrounding area, with a focus on supporting public seating near Marienplatz.
In its current form, the site is occupied by café terraces placed directly on former parking spaces on asphalt. One of the terraces is partly constructed using recycled, upcycled and natural materials. The use is linked to adjacent cafés and functions as a more continuous occupation of street space for outdoor seating.
The intervention reuses parking space for human-scale street use, increasing social activity at street level and supporting informal public life along the corridor.
