Description
This temporary parklet was installed on June 24th 2016 as part of the “Parklets für Stuttgart” initiative and has since been removed. The project transformed a sealed parking space along Schwabstraße into a small public seating area using upcycled and natural materials. Simple chairs and tables created space for sitting, meeting, drinking coffee, and short stays, while conifers in wooden planters formed a green buffer towards the street. The measure contributed to greening, social interaction, placemaking, traffic calming, and improving the quality of stay in one of Stuttgart’s most densely populated neighbourhoods with limited green space.
The parklet was part of a wider grassroots movement in Stuttgart that tested temporary alternatives to car-oriented street design and explored how small-scale interventions could support more liveable and people-focused public spaces. Several temporary parklets from the pilot phase later influenced more permanent redesigns and public space improvements across the city.
