Description
A pocket park is a small-scale public green space embedded in dense urban environments, supporting climate resilience, social interaction, and microclimate improvement.
An instance of a pocket park is the Superkilen Park. The space is a multifunctional urban park designed to represent global cultural diversity through street furniture collected from more than 60 countries. The park is divided into three colour-coded zones that structure different social and recreational activities.
The pink zone functions as a local market and gathering space, featuring pink rubber flooring and red maple trees that complement the colour scheme. The white zone serves as an urban living room with contour-following white line patterns integrated into the ground surface. The third zone consists of undulating green terrain shaped as hills and picnic landscapes.
The design has a focus on social inclusiveness while providing shaded and vegetated recreational areas that contribute to urban comfort in a the highly dense city of Copenhagen.
