Description
A pocket park is a small-scale public green space integrated into dense urban areas to improve liveability, reduce heat stress, and utilize underused urban land.
In this instance, a 600 metre-long linear garden was built under the King's Cir Flyover in Mumbai, transforming previously neglected infrastructure into a public recreational corridor. The Nanalal Mehta Garden is the first of its kind in the city and offers a new social and recreational space for the local community.
The meandering walking track along the park was inspired by the natural flow of the Narmada River and also indirectly contributed to infrastructure maintenance improvements by triggering addressing flyover leakage issues. The project is part of Mumbai's beutification process that the city government has been undertaking.
