Description
A pocket park is a small-scale public green space integrated into dense urban areas to improve liveability and microclimate conditions.
John F. Collins Park is one of the oldest pocket parks in Philadelphia and occupies less than 1/10th of an acre in the city centre. The narrow rectangular park functions as a quiet urban retreat within the busy Centre City District. It features a dense canopy of native trees, shaded seating benches, and ivy-covered walls that reflect local landscape identity.
The park contributes to urban climate adaptation by providing shaded microclimatic comfort, supporting urban greenery, and creating a small but accessible restorative public space in a highly built-up environment.
